Bryanna Krieger Ms. Lehmann English 2-2A 4 December 2019 Is It Worth It? Elizaberth Berg once said, “We are readers probably more than anything else.” Since time is a limited resource, we should carefully choose the articles we give that time to. Dorothy Rowe’s article about friendship, titled “With Friends Like These” is certainly worth your time if you want to learn more about how friends connect. The author’s background contributes to the quality of this article. Rowe has very good qualifications for this article. She has a degree in psychology and has experienced working as a psychologist. The purpose of this article is to inform about the topics of friendship, our emotions and perspective. The writing style is informal and uses first person pronouns. This article is written for a general audience but has no outside sources. This is very suitable for basic knowledge for readers who just want to learn more about friendships. The author uses very helpful section titles, which let the reader know what each section is going to be about. The main claim of the article is clearly introduced in the introduction, and it hooks the readers by finding common ground. This article is very organized and smoothly transitions from subject to subject. This is very nice for readers who like to be able to go back and read a certain section or want to learn about a certain topic. The main claim in the article is introduced early and gets referred back in the conclusion. The article has a clear beginning and end. Rowe argues a lot about how our friendships are necessary for us to be happy, but friendship can be difficult because of our perceptions of ourselves and one another. Rowe uses her own expertise and her own real-life stories for support, but the article lacks outside research. This article wouldn’t be good for a reader who is doing research since there are no outside sources. Rowe has very good qualifications for this articleand uses her experience to write. The author also uses section titles that tell readers what the sections are about. The main claim is introduced in the beginning and the author hooks readers in by finding common ground. Rowe uses the main claim very early and refers it back in the conclusion. The article is perfect for people who just want to learn, but is not for those who are doing research. I think this article is certainly worth your time if you want to learnsome new things about friendship, our emotions and perspective.
Reflection
Explain the process you went through to write this paper. Please be specific.
I had to write an a review on and article so I started with whether you should read it or not read it, then I started to talk about the author's qualifications, purpose, writing style and sources. Then, my next paragraph talked about the section titles, introduction, and organization. My fourth paragraph is about the introduction and conclusion, summary, and support for the article.
2. What qualifies this paper as an informative essay? What are the requirements for a review and how did you meet them? My paper tells you why this article is good to read for basic knowledge and not for readers who are trying to research. The requirements are the author's background, author's format, and the author's content. I wrote about each of them.
3. What one piece of advice would you give someone writing a review for the first time? Why? That they think about there opinion for a bit and let their readers know how they feel this article is and not switch how they feel about it. If they don't think for a little, they won't have good ideas for the review, and if they say they like it at the beginning of the article, and then at the end of the article say they hate it, their reader is going to be upset and feel like they wasted their time reading the article.
